The terms & conditions outlined below are strictly for our Dark Skies Tours experiences outlined on this website whether booked indirectly through Third Party Websites or Direct Bookings. When booking with third parties (e.g. OTAs or partner sites), please be aware that payment terms may differ from the below.

Arrival & Check In

Guests must check-in with our driver at Maldron Hotel Newcastle (a sign will direct you within the lobby). Tours MUST be pre-booked in advance and a valid ticket is essential (on mobile or printed).


Please arrive 15 minutes prior scheduled departure time.


5 minutes prior to tour departure any guests who have not checked in will be considered “no shows” and their tickets will be released to the public for sale or void.


Guests are not eligible for refunds or other compensation if they are late for check-in and miss their experience departure. Guests who wish to rebook their experience must pay the full cost of the new booking.


Dark Skies Tours (Northern Secrets Limited) is unable to guarantee full clarity, ideal skies, or visibility of certain objects on its outdoor experiences.


We are unable to issue a refund on the grounds of bad weather. Please note that we will never cancel an event or tour due to weather unless deemed as unsafe by Dark Skies Tours (Northern Secrets Limited).

Light Pollution

To minimize light pollution, guests are prohibited from using, or bringing, any white lights, including but not limited to LCD screens, flash photography, illuminated mobile phones, flashlights, torches, light up shoes etc.

Health & Safety

Health and safety are paramount – Dark Skes Tours (Northern Secrets Limited) reserves the right to refuse guests participation in tours should they not meet the health and safety, or operational requirements set out below. In such circumstances guests are not eligible for a refund.


Guests must abide by all rules and policies stipulated by Dark Skies Tours and their reprfesentatives (e.g. coach driver or astronomer tour guide).


Smoking or alcohol / drug consumption is not permitted during any Dark Skies Tours experience. Guests who are deemed as too intoxicated will be refused to take part in the tour.


If guests are considered to be under the influence of alcohol, causing undue disruption or negatively impacting other guest’s experience, they may be removed from the experience at Dark Skies Tours’ discretion. In this instance, no refund will be given.


For health and safety purposes, guests must have sufficient ability to communicate and/or understand the language of their tour to follow any instructions from our team (unless specified, the language spoken is English).


All children must be actively supervised by a parent or guardian to ensure minimal disruption to other guests. A minimum ratio of 1 adult to two children is required.


Children under 4 years old are not permitted on our tours. Children must occupy their own seat on the coach and wear safety belts at all times.


Warm clothing is essential on all our outdoor experiences regardless of the season.


It is the responsibility of guests to be adequately dressed for the conditions.


We recommend wearing the following as a minimum:

– Flat, warm, and comfortable footwear suitable for walking on uneven terrain

– Wind-proof jackets, thermals, and full, warm pants

– Hats and gloves

Booking Changes & Cancellations

To cancel or amend an existing booking, please contact us in writing on info@northernsecrets.co.uk with your booking reference, full name, and change request. Please allow up to 48 hours for a response.


Third party bookings: If you have booked through a booking agent or third party, please contact them for their cancellation terms and conditions as they may differ to the below and any refunds will need to be processed through them.


Direct bookings: For individual direct bookings you may cancel up to 48 hours before the experience departure time and receive a full refund to the card used to confirm the booking. If you cancel within 48 hours of the experience departure time you are not entitled to any refund for any reason. 


Please note that for group reservations of 10 or more guests, no refunds will be given within 7 days of the date of the experience.

Payment Terms

The name of the business that will appear on your bank/credit card statements will be Northern Secrets Limited.


Your account will be charged in GBP (Great British Pounds (Stirling)).


Confirmation of direct bookings will be only confirmed when full payment has been received.

Privacy Policy

Our parent company, under which this brand, Dark Skies Tours, operates, is Northern Secrets Limited.


At Northern Secrets Ltd we take your data protection and privacy very seriously. We never pass your personal information to any 3rd party or organisation. The information we collect will only be used in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998 and General Data Protection Regulation 2018. We collect personal information about you only to process your booking or subscribe you to our mailing list. Northern Secrets Ltd (‘we’ or ‘us’) collect, use and are responsible for certain personal information about you. When we do so we are regulated under the above regulations which apply across the EEA (including the United Kingdom post 31 December 2020) and we are responsible as ‘controller’ of that personal information for the purposes of those laws.


Should you book, we collect several pieces of information about you – your name, address, phone number, email address, booking preferences sometimes date of birth and/or dietary requirements. This information is stored by us and our, relevant to your specific tour, travel partners (e.g. hotels, ferry company etc.). If you subscribe to our newsletter, we only collect your email address and full name.


Some of the information we collect about you could be considered sensitive. That is why it is never passed on to any parties outside of Northern Secrets Ltd, except where your tour requires this (e.g. when this is run by a travel partner when we will supply details of your booking to them). All our travel partners comply with data protection laws and we then act as the tour agent & ‘processor’.


Your email address is kept for contact purposes, allowing our staff to keep you up to date on any changes that may occur between you booking a tour and taking part. In addition we will send you one email for feedback shortly after your tour. If you have subscribed to our mailing list, we will use your email address to send you our newsletter. You can unsubscribe from the list at any time by clicking a link in a newsletter. All of our marketing partners are GDPR compliant. We may use cookies or Google Analytics to help us measure site performance, and for anonymous gathering of usage information. Third party applications we embed in our site like Facebook and Twitter also use cookies to understand user behaviour and marketing purposes and each has their own privacy policy which you can view by clicking the respective link.
